How long does it take to travel by train from Pisa to CT? Would it be better and cheaper to stay in Pisa and day-trip to Vernazza rather than try to get a hotel in Vernazza?

An hour or more. I would not stay in Pisa unless you have only one night and will be leaving from Pisa. This spring I stayed 2 nights in La Spezia, took the train into the CT, then returned to Pisa to fly out. Hotel Mary is across the street from the train station in La Spezia, so that made transportation easy. There is an elevator from the station level down to the street. Go outside and look in the parking lot for the elevator.
