Planning on taking train from Monterosso al mare to Nice, France next spring and would appreciate any advice on routes, connections, etc.

You can get a look at the schedule at www.bahn.com. I daresay you will need to change trains in Genoa and Ventimiglia, but its a straight forward rail trip along the coast.

Sam is correct. However there are a couple of options that require one change only (in Ventimiglia).
One with a departure at 04:55 and another with a departure at 13:12 hours. The total trip duration ranges from over 5 hours to 6.5 hours depending on connections and type of trains used.

Schedules probably won't get any worse next spring, and may possibly get better if they ever follow through to remove connection at the border. Check schedules again in January.
