I'm finding some conflicting information about this. This map shows a route going from St. Mark's pier, but I've read on sites like tripadvisor that you actually have to do this west of St. Mark's, from behind the Gritti Hotel Palace, and you land on Calle Lanza instead of Fondamenta Salute. Which one is correct?

On this site of the ACTV (the public transport company) http://actv.avmspa.it/en/content/water-bus-service-timetable-0 you find a detailed map of the ferries (scroll down to find the button for the pdf).
Many piers now include the San Marco name; this is not the main one. Your map, and those in Rick's guidebooks, and Google Maps all show the traghetto leaving from San Marco Vallaresso pier on Calle Vallaresso. It should go to Fondamenta Salute. The traghetto at Calle Lanza goes to Santa Maria del Giglio. These crossings are kept as short and direct as possible, since riders are standing up in a gondola and there's plenty of traffic in the Grand Canal.
