Traffic Violation Italy

1 1/2 years ago while traveling in Italy we rented a car. After returning home we received an email from Hertz saying there was a ticket and they charge our credit card a fee to provide our info to the Police. As of this date still haven't received the ticket so have no idea what we did or how to pay. Hertz cant help us and numerous email sent to the police in the area where we supposedly were bad have gone unanswered. We would like to go to Sicily next spring and of course rent a car. Am very concerned once we get there we will run into problems. Has anyone else experienced this and have any recommendations? Need help pls!

Pay if and when an actual ticket arrives. We have received them about a year after date of ticket.
One from Spain came certified mail but gave no address to send the payment. That is only one we didn’t/ couldn’t pay. We even called the Spanish Embassy to track it down with no results.

Thank you. My concern is arriving on holiday and finding out we can't rent a car and our plans being messed up. Am trying to be proactive about this but am very frustrated. I can't seem to get to get any contact info :(

That is not going to happen. Technically if you haven't received ticket within a year you are off the hook. If you use the search engine here - very top of the page - you will find endless discussions about traffic tickets in Italy.

Local authorities may decide that it is not worth their effort to collect the fine and not send a ticket. So if you do not receive a ticket, don't worry about it. They have your address and until such time you receive the ticket, there is nothing you can do.

Many Italian local authorities don’t bother to send tickets overseas, especially outside the EU because only a small percentage gets paid anyhow. If you haven’t received one after a year and a half, chances are it is one of those municipalities that don’t send tickets overseas. In any case nothing happens if you don’t pay even if you received it. They usually sell the debt to a collection agency with international affiliates and the collectors try to collect at a later date. Even in that case only 25% of tickets sent overseas get paid to collectors.
