Traffic Fine received in Italy

I Received a traffic fine for 109 euros while in Sorrento for entering a restricted street at the wrong time. Is there an easy way to pay on line? If not, is there any way to pay? I have tried Avis and AAA without success.

Who sent you this fine, was it the City of Sorrento or the rental company ? If it was the rental company you must wait for the fine under your name to arrive via registered letter.

If it was the city of Sorrento, follow the instructions written in the letter. Usually you log in to your bank account and make a money transfer using the City's Iban code and the fine number.

Thank you for your response. Citta di Sorrento sent it to me. I will use your suggestion.

If your bank is going to charge you an exorbitant amount (as it is reported that they do), consider using the company Wise (formerly TransferWise) to transfer the money to Italy. I have not used Wise, but a number of people here have done so when they needed to pay traffic fines or apartment deposits. The fees are very, very reasonable.

Thank you for suggesting Wise to transfer the money. I have to find the ticket number and verify the IBAN number on the ticket. I will pay the fine.

Received two tickets for driving in the bus lane in Padua last April. Paid both with Wise. No apparent issues. I did it, I knew it, I paid it.....sigh.

Thank you John. I am trying to locate the ticket number. I believe I have the 27 digit IBAN number.

Brad, reading your messages it seems that the registered letter from Sorrento is written only in Italian. If so, a ticket should be called a "verbale" or "verbale di notifica"

The Iban codes written on the City's official site are: IT95Y0623040260000056706141 and IT92J0100003245425300068104

We will see more of these posts in the future.

After a EU recommendation last year, many Italian municipalities are instituting a 30 km/h (19 mph) speed limit in the cities starting this June. Some already started. I noticed last month that Florence already did in many streets. The new limit is often painted on the asphalt like in this image
