Hi gang!
I'm back for more help with my BFF's birthday trip. For those who don't know, I am taking my BFF on a trip to Rome and Agriturismo Bagnolo for a momentus birthday. I have taken the plunge and decided to rent a car. I want to take the train to a rural area and pick up the rental car there. (As of now, it's Terni on the way up and Orvieto on the way back). We were going to go on a truffle hunt and then on to Assisi for the day, then drive to the Agriturismo (which is about a half hour from Pienza). Unfortunately, the truffle hunt idea was not met with great enthusiasm (the difficult part of being asked to plan the trip without her doing any research on her own) . I'm not sure she will love Assisi either. Her criteria is that she wants to have experiences rather than visiting churches and museums. (this trip is for her birthday, so I am organizing it to meet her desires). With this in mind, does anyone have any suggestions regarding an alternate town or experience during that travel day from Rome to Pienza. I can change the town in which we pick up the rental car if needed. We would train into the town and pick up the rental car. We will be visiting Orvieto on our way back. Thank you!!!
You might be better off taking the Leonardo Express to the Airport and getting a car there. Your selection of cars in a small town will be limited and you won't save any time. Stop at Montepulciano on your way. I know there is a Hertz in Orvieto but they take a long lunch.
Lori,
There's no need to go elsewhere, this will give you and your friend an outdoor adventure. It's between EDIT: Terni and Narni
Thank you Gerri! It looks interesting. I'll check it out!
We did the opposite and hit Orvieto and Civita di Bagnoreggio on the way -- Civita is really a step back in time (you can only get there via pedestrian bridge) and was really cool to see. Around Pienza, Montepulciano and Montalcino (esp. if you're wine fans) were some of our favorites.
