Town south of Naples as home base?

My family is traveling in Italy, and we are staying in Rome for 2 months. We want to get a taste of southern Italy, and stay in a town for one month and would love to homebase in a quieter place than Rome south of Naples, to get away from the city and also to be in a more rural setting. My girls love to ride horses, hike and explore the world and we are a vegetarian family. We prefer not to rent a car if possible. We are experienced travelers, and have been on the road for 8 months all over Europe. We will consider a farm stay as well, as long as ther ein internet access, as we work on the road from home. Thank you for any suggestions!

Stacy, As you've been travelling "all over Europe" for 8-months, I assume you researched the legalities of the Schengen Accord, which limits tourists to no more than 90-days in the E.U.? Regarding your question, I'm not aware of any Agriturismos in that area, but somewhere in the Sorrento area would probably be a good place to start. As you won't have a car, having transportation easily available will be an advantage, and Sorrento is a good "home base" for that area. Good luck and happy travels!

Stacy, after checking legalities of a long stay, I would suggest trying some other regions of Italy: Puglia might make a good base, or the area around Foggia (a major transportation hub). If you have a month, why not try Sicily? The area around Paestum, famous for its mozzarella, has some agriturismo options.

Thank you for your suggestions, we are trying to stay wamer by going south in Italy. I will look into the areas you suggested. We are aware of the laws in all of the countries we visit, thank you for your concern, many countries outside the EU (22) are considered the continent of Europe and do not belong to the Schengen agreement. We also have traveled in Asia and Africa during our 8 months, so we are all good: ). My kids love the diversity each country provides them for their perspective on the giant and amazing world we live in. I am excited to explore more and I appreciate your suggestions!
