Tower of Pisa Tickets; OpaPisa web site down

Has anyone found a way to get Tower of Pisa tickets this Spring? Every time I check the opapisa.it web site (recommended by RS) the online ticket function is down. Short of buying a coach tour, has anyone found another source?

It seems to be back up as of now. I selected tickets for early May and got to the point where it was asking for my booking information. Did it fail for you after that? Don't forget, you only get 20-minute shifts up there now.

My son and I visited Pisa last August (busy season), we walked up and found there were tickets available for the afternoon just as the sun was setting. It was amazing to climb the tower at night and sit at the top. You may wish to take a risk and look for tickets the day you arrive.
Spend some time walking down to Garabaldi square,(get away from the touristy tower area), next to the campus, they have free eats at an outdoor cafe on the river if you get a drink, or have a nice Gelato at the store on the square.

We walked up to the ticket office and simply bought our tickets. Why pay for them in advance? As soon as you get to the square, find the ticket booth, purchase your tickets, then go explore before your turn to walk those wonderful stairs!

We had about one hour before our turn to climb.

We took the time to walk through the duomo, the grounds. We checked out all the vendors lined up across from the tower, and did a bit of people watching!

After our climb, we spent a bit more time in the area, then walked back to train. Our trip to Pisa was a day trip from Florence.

I,too, have been trying to use the online booking site and it seems to have been down for over a week. Did you find an alternate resource? Our trip isn't until the middle of June but it would sure be nice to have a reservation to climb the tower instead of waiting several hours. Let me know.

Booked through their website for our visit in July 2009 with no problems. Did pisa as a daytrip from Florence and wanted a specific time to climb the tower as we were planning on going on to Lucca. We had visited Pisa previously towards the end of June in 2002 and went immediately to get tickets and there was a wait. It was a few hrs. so we just visited the church and baptistery and went and had lunch. Maybe there was a wait in '02 as the tower had recently reopened after being closed for quite awhile but there were lots of people there last summer too. Don't know what wait times were. FYI--when I booked our tkts in advance they asked for my passport # online (I was booking for our group of 5) but also asked to see my passport when I picked up tkts. I only had a copy of passport on me and they said that was o.k. Did not see anything in R.S. bk about bring passport to pk up tkts or nothing was online re. this either.
