We will be staying in Sorrento and would like to visit Pompeii and Amalfi coast (on different days). Transportation to the coast with free time to sightsee would be okay. Regarding Pompeii, we'd really like someone to help explain all that we see. Has anyone has great success with a particular sightseeing company?

If you're staying in Sorrento, you're on the Amalfi Coast. Which areas did you specifically want to see?
For touring Pompeii, I'd suggest taking the Circumvesuviana from Sorrento to Pompeii Scavi. When you arrive there, use one of the local Guides. You'll probably find that as you walk to the ticket windows at Pompeii, you'll be approached by one or more guides offering their services. I'd HIGHLY recommend Gaetano Manfredi as his tours are exceptional! Check the Italy book for contact details.
One note regarding tours of the Amalfi coast. Apparently there is road construction underway in certain areas, but I'm not sure which parts of the coast are affected or when this will be completed? If you want hire a private driver for touring the Amalfi coast, there are listings and contact information in the Italy book.

Gerri, I had wonderful success with Mariano Fiorentino at pleasantravel.com. He came to me highly recommended by others through this forum. The fee was not inexpensive but was very well worth the money in my opinion.
