I will be staying in Sorrento the first week of May and we are hoping to take a day trip to Paestum. We are already planning Day trips to Capri and Ischia as well. Is a day trip to Paestum do-able, and if so are there any recommendations on good tour groups that go there from Sorrento? I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!
Hi Devon - Im sure your hotel might be able to reccommend a tour to Paestum. Im anti-tours (hehehe) so when we were in Sorrento, we did our own trip to Paestum. Caught the bus to Amalfi, from there caught another bus to Salerno and from there caught another bus to Paestum. I hear there is a train that goes from Salerno to Paestum also but not sure of those details. It was such a wonderful (mis)adventure and probably one of the highlights of my whole trip. My only word of caution would be to double check the schedule for the buses. They change a little depending on the season.
Thanks Monique for the advice. I think we are going to try it your route and do the train. We leave in 2 wks and there are so many things to see! Thank you and hopefully we will have a (mis)adventure of our own!
i found several car services (2 recommended by RS guide) online and requested private day trip prices. they hit all the hot spots on the amalfi coast and paestum. i got price quotes anywhere from 350 to 450 euros for 8 -10 hours. (this was for a group of 8) dont know how much tour guide info they will give but with RS guide and a little research beforehand i feel i will get what i am looking for.
Although we have visited the site a couple of times under our own steam (in the days when we rented cars during our trips to Sorrento), I would say that it can be a fiddly experience by public transport. Last October we used this company to take us to Paestum via Salerno (including a visit to the interesting Cathedral). The price includes the services of a guide to the sites. You will have to pay the combined museum and site fee yourself. http://www.goldentours.it/it/salerno_e_paestum.php We booked the trip through the travel agents "Fiorentino" in Piazza San Antonino and there were no additional booking fees Overall we thought it a good trip, you don't have to use the restaurant near the site that they take you to, like us maybe take a picnic lunch or eat elsewhere.
