Bella Notte!
I used Romewalks in 2005 and it was a marvelous experience.I rebooked 3 tours with them in October.I recommend them highly, and in fact, wherever we met Americans going to Roma, we urged them to book a tour with Romewalks and ask for Greg. He was fantastico!

My vote goes to Angel tours www.angletoursrome.com. You could do the Vatican on your own but I'd suggest a guide so you get the most out of it. It's pretty overwhelming otherwise. I'm not a tour person but I did the Vatican Angel tour and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Also about half the price of any of the other tours. This is because the guides are semi voluntary. They are all art history students or similar and really know their stuff.
