Tours/Reservations and the Roma Pass?

We're not new at traveling, particularly, but, for the first time, online we've reserved times (access?) at the Borghese Gallery and the Scavi Tour. We've also reserved and paid for the "Pristine Sistine" tour. We were concerned that we might not gain access to these sites which seem to be extremelypopular. The process for going on the Pristine Sistine Tour is pretty well laid out and it appears that our entrance fees and lining up issues are taken care of there. We're not sure how a Roma Pass is to be, or needs to be, used with our prepaid reservations for the Borghese and the Scavi tour. We also plan to see the Coliseum, Palatine Hill and the Pantheon on our own.

Jim:
The Scavi tour is through the Ufficio Scavi at the Vatican and is not covered by the Roma Pass. Have you already emailed the Scavi Office for tickets and tour time? They will require payment in advance. I have not used the Roma Pass for the Borghese yet, but it has been covered here on the Helpline. As I understand it (and I will be doing this myself in a couple of months) you need to call the Borghese for your entry time and tell them you are using a Roma Pass. You cannot do it online. The Colosseum, Palatine Hill and Forum are one ticket. You simply present your Roma Pass at the entry, skipping the lines. You can buy your Roma Pass at any site that accepts it, and also at TIs and I believe at some newsstands. The Pantheon is free. BTW, we loved the Pristine Sistine tour! Hope you do too!

Laurel, We booked and paid for the Scavi Tour online, so we're probably okay there. As to the Borghese, we booked what I'm sure was just the reservation on line and have that confirmed. I did not mention the Roma Pass in my Borghese reservation application, so I'm not sure if we can just present the Roma Pass (which has to be purchased in Italy, I think) on entry tp the Borghese. Thanks for your tip on the Coliseum, Palatine Hill and Forum. In any event, probably one of the first things to do on arrival is to purchase the Roma Pass.

Andrea, I reserved two places online using the Borghese's recommended and linked website [email protected]
I received what I assume is a reservation and/or tickets for 11:00-13:00 on a specific date. The site, which is principally in Italian says "...you have bought 2 biglietti for the event Galleria Borghese, then states the time and date, then in the next line "Posti 2 Hall: 1(-1), then my name, "tickets Total amount for 2 biglietti Euro 23,00" The message header also containsd a "Purchase Code" and a "Password" I think I may have both reservatuions and tickets, but I'm more sure that I at least have reservations. I'm still sure if a Roma Pass has any relevance to my transaction. Jim

I got my Borghese reservation by making a phone call, then used the Roma Pass when I arrived there and actually purchased my tickets. I did not see any way to only make a reservation online. Did you submit a credit card number when you made your online reservation?

If you told then you were using a romapass for entry then there will be no charge to you. If you have a reservation number just tell them it when you check in and show them the pass. They will give you your tickets without any problems. If you didn't mention you had the romapass and gave them a cc number then you paid for the tickets and didn't use the pass. Donna

Donna, I guess I didn't know enough to mention the Roma Pass when I purchased the tickets/made the reservation. Because one must purchase the Roma Pass in Italy and we're not there yet, I don't yet have those Roma Passes; however, I'm sure I can come up with at least two or three sites to visit that may make the Roma Pass a worthwhile investment (many sites accepting the pass are listed in RS' Italy 2011 book).

We bought the Roma Pass and used it for the Coliseum/Roman Forum and National Roman Museum. I found getting to the Coliseum first thing in the morning was very benificial even with the pass due to the security lines all must pass through. We tried to go to the Forum and the workers were on a "day strike" so it was closed. We just went the next day. I am glad I had a few days to move things around. The Pantheon is free and you can just walk in. We used the pass for public transportation using the bus system and metro. Got a few taxis too, mainly going to the Vatican Museum to get to our pre-reserved time. Remember to bring your reservation info with you to the Borghese Museum as you can walk up to the self-service kiosk and get your tickets printed out.
I bought my Roma Pass at the "i" (information booth) on Via del Corso, see RS map.
