We used Context in July and very much enjoyed our tour. We toured ancient Rome (forum, colosseum and Palatine Hill) with just a guide and our family (kids 12 and 14). Context has many tour choices that are "small group" or you can arrange a private tour like we did. The web site is

I used Rome Walks (for the Colloseum, Roman Forum, Palatine Hill Tour) and Through Eternity (for the Vatican Tour). I stressed a lot about choosing the "right" tour company... which seems silly now because they were both wonderful. Through Eternity was my favorite, because the guide was insanely informative (an Art History professor from Boston, doing Vatican tours for the summer) - though might venture that Rome Walks would be more suitable for a 12-year-old audience. Both companies had guides who completely friendly, nice, humorous and engaging. With both companies I was in a group of about 8. Rome Walks didn’t have the cheesy headsets, Through Eternity did but I think only because they are required in the Vatican. Frankly, I would have gotten lost without my headset, as often times an INVASION of a massive tour group would swarm by and our guide would say into our headpieces, “No one move! Just wait for them to pass!”. It was quite funny. I was happy with both companies.

Hi, I recently went to Rome by myself in mid-September 2007. I am a solo female traveler in my 30's. I booked my tours with Through Eternity for both The Vatican/St. Peter's and The Roman Forum/Colosseum at www.througheternity.com from a recommendation of friends and Rick Steves' Rome book. I thought it would be a good way to meet people and to share the experience while learning and it was worth it. I really enjoyed my tour guide Jennifer who was originally from southern California who I used for both tours. The company is very easy to book with and informative. As a guide, Jennifer was extremely knowledgeable in Roman history as well as art history and is a very upbeat, friendly and caring person who genuinely loves her clients and wants the experience to be excellent. I appreciated her warm demeanor, great sense of humor and knowledge. I'd recommend this tour company to anyone traveling alone, with others, and/or with children.
