Tours in Florence and Venice

My husband and I ( age 26/27 ) are traveling to venice and florence in mid may. We have created itineries using RS's suggestions for the 3 days in Venice and 2 days in Florence. With this being our first trip to both cities, we're wondering if we'd be better off booking a tour or two in each city. We also have downloaded the RS audio tours to help with a few of the big sites. Any tour group experiences that people liked or suggestions would be helpful! Thanks!

Give yourself time for aimless wanderings, particularly off the main tourist track as well Kasey. In Florence, investigate Altrano - over the river. The Pitti Palace and Boboli Gardens (the 'back yard') are worth a visit, especially at that time of year. Hike up along the old walls for a great view of Florence.

I find a walking tour, usually a couple of hours, a great way to get your bearings in a city. I did one in Venice last year and really enjoyed it. Most large tour companies run these - just google walking tours+venice or florence and see what comes up.
