Tours from Florence to Siena or Volterra

Hi, my fiancee and I are interested in a day trip excursion from Florence to Siena or Volterra on our honeymoon. I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations. In my research, it seems that there are very few tours to Volterra--In fact, I still haven't found one within our budget. There are several tours from Florence to Siena, but they all incorporate other towns, which we fear will make for a rushed day. While I'm sure San Gimignano and Monteriggioni are great to visit, we want to have time to do Siena justice. I mean, only one day hardly does it justice, so how can a few hours? I guess we're looking for 2 things:

1) Tours to Siena that are not too rushed

2) Tours to Volterra

We would like to keep the cost for both of us under $180. This will be during the first week of March.

Are you committed to a tour? Second you could do your own tour easy with local transportation. And, third, we often find that the local TI will offer reasonably tours for the surrounding area. But no way to check them out in advance. Just go to the TI and see what is offered.

I too have looked for tours that include Volterra and come up with nothing. But for Siena, it’s easy to do on your own. Take a bus from Florence to Siena, takes about 45 minutes. The bus station is very close to Firenze Santa Maria Novella train station, and it will drop you very close to the center of Siena. Then you can spend as much time as you like and see whatever interests you. And it’s very affordable.

For my upcoming trip this July I will be staying in the countryside and renting a car to get to Volterra and a couple other harder to get to places. I can hardly wait!

Yes, we are primarily interested in a Tour. While we could easily get to Siena by train or bus, we kind of want to break up our honeymoon with some interaction with other English-speakers in a tour-like atmosphere. Frank, forgive my ignorance (or sleepy brain fog), but what is the TI? It sounds like you're suggesting we manage our own travel to Siena and then find a local tour. I could look into that.

Angela, I'm glad I'm not the only one having trouble finding a way to Volterra! I've thought about going by bus (which takes some time and a transfer) or a car. I guess we could do that and find a local tour? My research shows base rental rates around $70-$90, but I'm not sure what to estimate for gas.

You won’t have trouble finding English speakers in Italy. Tourism seems to be one of their
biggest industries, so many people there speak multiple languages. Plus you’ll run into tourists wherever you go, many of them who also speak English.

Not that you’ll always understand their English. I recall sitting in a historic restaurant in Bath England some time ago and trying to listen in on a conversation at the next table. I’m fairly certain they were speaking English, yet I could barely understand a word that was said!
