Which tour company would you recommend for tours of the Vatican or the Coliseum? And if you have to choose one over the other for a tour which would you choose? Also has anyone done a bike tour from Florence to Tuscany? My husband is an avid long distance cyclist, and I can stay upright on a bike. So we would need one that is not too difficult. Any tips?
We took Walks of Italy for both. The Pristine Sistine for the Vatican was worth every penny. If I had to choose, I would take the Vatican tour over the Colosseum. Getting into the Vatican before it opens is wonderful.
Keep in mind that Tuscany is pretty hilly and not flat if you are looking for an easy bike trip.
Second Florence is a city and Tuscany is a large geographical area. Florence is a city in Tuscany. So you need to know the towns in Tuscany that you want to ride to and from. It might help to view a map of the area. Third, the whole area is very hilly with relatively narrow roads so you need to be comfortable in riding in tight traffic situations. And carry a good GPS.
We have been very pleased with Angel Tours in Rome. Since no one has ever taking the same tour from two different companies it hard to recommend one tour company over another another. You can check the local TI for good local information on tours.
That is a good point about tour comparison Frank. My husband had a friend who did a tour out of Florence “through the Tuscany region”. He assures us I could do it, but I am not so sure.
