Has anyone had any issues touring the Vatican museums and Sistine chapel on Wednesdays during a papal audience? We will only be in Rome on a Wednesday and don't really have an interest in hearing the pope we would love to see the Sistine chapel though. Anyone with experience?
No problems at all with the Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel during a Papal Audience. While the audience takes place in St Peter's Square, the Basilica of St Peter's is closed.
The museums are less crowded during the papal audience but as soon as it's finished most people head to the museums. If you can get a tour that is while the audience is going on that would be a very good thing. If you plan to visit the basilica after the vatican museums be sure to be dressed properly. Donna
