CAN YOU RECOMMEND THE TIME OF DAY WHICH IS BEST TO VISIT THE VATICAN? DOES THE SISTINE CHAPEL CLOSE EARLIER THAN THE REST OF THE MUSEUM?

Visit St Peter's Basilica in the morning - but not on Wednesdays because the Pope usually does his audience in the square. Visit the Museum with the Sistine Chapel after noon. The Museum is open 8:30a-6p with last entry at 4p.

I did a tour last year with Angel tours and the guide told us that Tuesday afternoon is the best time to go as it is the less busy day of the week. However this is not the case if the museums have been closed on the Monday prior.

No, you have to go through the museum to reach the Sistine Chapel.
