We are coming in a few days before the RS 10 day tour (3/23-4/1) and staying a few days after. Our extra days are not planned yet but one of the things we want to do is to walk around the jewish ghetto. I've seen listings for tours for this but not sure it is really necessary.
Any thoughts?
thanks, Denise
Are you wanting to know about the Jewish Ghetto in Rome? If so, the Rick Steves Rome book has a walking tour you can follow. And yes, a guided tour through the area is wonderful, but not critical.
. . . or in Venice, where Rick’s book mentions that it was the world’s original ghetto, set aside 500 years ago for Jews to live? I understand the neighborhood looks very different now, than back when It was very crowded, with high-rise buildings.
Our first trip to Venice, we stayed in a ghetto B&B attached to the house of two architects - very comfortable, in an excellent location. We just wandered the area, crossing over many bridges, but didn’t go on a specific guided tour. If there were hidden secrets to see, without a tour, then we missed them, but still enjoyed the ghetto part of Venice.
