Touring Montepulciano

Hello, We are planning a trip to Italy using Rick's guides. We will be staying in Siena for several days and want to do a day tour of Montepulciano and maybe other surrounding sites. I have a few questions.... How long will it take to see the main sites in Montepulciano? Are there any interesting sites in the outskirts of town we should visit such as wineries? Many thanks!

Angie, I visited Montepulciano for a day and ended up getting lost becaue I got adventurous. I would say its more like a 3 or 4 hour stop, not a whole day. walk through the main street and stop in the shops. Get there early and have a nice lunch and go to the top of the town and take a wine cellar tour and try their wine. Its a fun relaxing place to be. Have fun!

You should buy the RS Florence/Tuscany book. It's loaded with this kind of info.

I agree with William....3 or 4 hours is plenty of time. When I was there we also had visited two other villages that day and never felt rushed at any of them.
