We tour Italy for several days before returning to Rome for the balance of our visit. What is best way to travel to our hotel near Vatican City after we turn in our rental car at the airport?

I think it depends on where the hotel is and what you consider "best". We just finished a stay that was on the basilica side of the Vatican. For us, taking the FR1 to trastevere and then another train to Roma San Pietro was the best option. This was very easy and cost effective. If you are staying on the other side of the Vatican you may be able to take the FR1 to the next station and continue from there. You might also consider taking the express train from the airport to the termini and taking the metro from there. You also need to decide if taking a cab might be the best for you. If you have lots of luggage or are not comfortable with the train system then it might be better to take a taxi dirctly to the hotel. Depending on where the hotel is you may be on the fixed rate or on the meter. Donna
