Tour to Pompeii and Herculaneum from Sorrento

We will be staying in Sorrento for 5 days the first week of October. One day we would like to do a tour to Pompeii and Herculaneum. We do NOT want to be on a bus with 100 of our "closest" friends. We would prefer a small group 6-8 or private tour. Our hotel suggested using either Golden Tours or Tempio. But the information does not say how many people are in the tour.

Has anyone been on a tour from Sorrento that they highly recommend?

I'd NOT do them both on the same day. It's way too much. Personally, I'd just do ONE. We love Herculaneum - it's smaller, but you still see amazing things just like at Pompeii -- we took the train and followed the Rick Steves book tour and did it on our own - it was so easy - be sure and go all the way to the end, down the stairs - that's where the skeletons are and we saw so many people miss this.

I'm sure others will help you if you want a guide, but we really enJOYed doing it on our own - the Rick Steves book explains it all so well.

You will love Sorrento - one of our favorites.

I had a Mondo tour pre-pandemic of Pompeii and it was fewer than 10 people, very satisfied with them. I was also there the first week of October. We met up with the tour guide at the site, having taken the Circumvesuviana train.

We used Mondo Tours for Pompeii. There was 8 in our group. You can take the Circumvesuviana train to Pompeii and meet the guide there. It was a 3 hour tour and then we spent a couple of more hours exploring on our own, and then back another day for 5 or 6 more hours. Pompeii is huge. We made a trip to Herculaneum on another day and explored on our own and followed it up with another day trip to Naples to see the Archeological Museum to tie it all together.
