Helping a group of friends with a trip and they want to get a private drivers for a group of 10 to go to Cortona and Assisi for the day. Any suggestions?
Rent a van in Florence and drive to Assisi. It's easy and cheap. Seriously. I would use the Rick Steves book for the specifics/info and spend the money on a nice dinner instead. Assisi was fabulous--
Alterini Brothers is a famous bus/van hire with driver firm in Florence. But there are a ton in Florence. I have no experience with them. But you can start from that. Otherwise Google “Noleggio Minibus Firenze” and see what comes up.
I often visited Assisi and Cortona together by car from Florence (usually to take friends and relatives from the US). At the time I just drove my father’s trusty (and a bit rusty) Fiat Punto, obviously with no more than 4 people. In the end it was a long day, especially for me who did the driving and the showing around. That is why I don’t suggest they rent and drive themselves, as suggested by the previous reply. By the way a van can hold a maximum of 8 pax plus the driver, therefore unless someone in the group holds a commercial bus driver’s license (type D in the International Driving Permit) you need to rent at least two midsize/large size vehicles for 10 people.
Thanks for the referral. This group is definitely not going to be driving. They would rather pay someone.
