Tour of the Amalfi Coast and Pompeii from Naples?

I plan to tour the Amalfi Coast and Pompeii for two days in later November or early December. My plan is as follows

Day 0: arrival
Day 1: guided tour of Positano, Amalfi & Ravello from Naples
Day 2: Pompeii for most of the day; Then take train to Florence.

I wonder if Day 1 tour is feasible given shorter daylight time in end of November even though the description of guide tour on Viator listed all three towns.

I also excluded Capri from my trip because I think it is not a good idea for winter. Do you agree?

If you plan to head from Pompeii to Florence remember that the main train line stops in Pompeii Centrale at the far east end of the Pompeii site in the middle of town, while the Circumvesuviana train which folks usually use to get to Pompeii Scavi from Naples stops at the west end of the Pompeii site near the front gate. You can take the Circumvesuvianan train back to Naples of course, but maybe the main line will have quicker service to Florence. And where will you leave your luggage. Or, if you take the main train line to Pompeii Centrale and drop your bags at the station there... then you can walk the length of the site back to the main entrance and when you exit at the east end you will be near the station where your bags are stored.

Note that Viator is a third- party broker. Usually works best, and cheaper, to book directly with the tour company.

We were in the area this last May, and experienced unprecedented rains. There are few indoor experiences, and the coast isn't so spectacular when the sky and seas are grey, and visibility is very poor. I'd advise you to be flexible depending on the weather, which could be quite variable in November and December.

Positano is mainly high - end shopping.

Ferries can be seasonal, and don't run in bad weather, even in high season.

I think Pompeii can be enjoyable year round, altho the footing can be slippery in the rain.

Hope all works out and you have a great trip. Safe travels!

NickB, my plan is to put luggage at a luggage storage close to Naples central station at 7:00am. Then take the train to arrive Pompeii before 9am (so I don't need reserve the ticket) and come back to Naples with the same line after tour. Then check out my luggage and take the train to Florence.

Pat, in the winter, no ferry. Pompeii is on my Day 2. All tour by car. I am also really worried about the weather. So I created this topic. Any suggestion for bad weather? I found some alternatives. Naples Undergrounds. Anything else in your mind? Thank you!

In Naples you have the excellent Archaeological Museum, the Capodimonte art museum (take a taxi up there), the Capella San Severo with the "Veiled Christ" (near the Archaeological Museum) and many churches. There are additional museums that might be of interest.

acraven, thank you for your suggestion. As to taxi, I heard Uber which I used widely in Europe before is not available in Italy. Is that true? if that is the case, how to get taxi?

Should I check the weather two days before the tour day and cancel the tour (of course 24 hours earlier than the start of the tour) If the weather forecast says it will rain over 50% (or 30%, which one?) of chance on that day? Any suggestion?

When we were in the area in May, the forecasts were remarkably accurate. Of course, we were in denial when we read "100% chance of rain all day, " as it never rains all day.
It did.
Good luck, and have a great adventure!

Jyung,
We were in Italy for unprecedented rains mid- May. Apparently Italy, and surrounding countries, had been in a drought. Said condition ended shortly after we arrived.
Venice May 8 arrival- one nice day followed by 48 hrs nonstop rain.
Lake Como May 12-15 - on and off showers every day but would clear between showers .
Sorrento Amalfi May 15-20- Raining upon arrival, completely fogged in for 2-3 days, (we couldn't see any part of Vesuvius for 2-3 days) ,
Rained more than half the day we toured the AC,
One good day with sun at Pompeii May 19 🌞,
Raining most of the day as we left May 20.
We made a lot of lemonade!
Good luck to you!
