Tour of Sicily

Has anyone taken the tour of Sicily? It has always been my dream to travel there but my trip this year was cancelled due to Covid-19. I am happy to say that my refund was quick and effortless. However, I would still like to go. Is the trip strenuous? Is there a lot of walking or hiking involved? Thank you.

Can you move your post to the section for Rick Steves Tours?

louise, welcome to the forum. Yes many of us have taken the tour. We loved it. Read the description of the daily itinerary carefully as it is pretty accurate. There are a lot of stairs to climb, and some of the sights are hilly. But its not a trek. Not hiking. Its just you are on foot at every stop. You can always opt out of any activity if you choose to.

Look in the Trip Reports forum here on this site and you'll see several reports from travelers on the RS Sicily Tour. Here's a good one: Sicily tour report It was suggested you move your thread to the Tour Forum, because not everyone who posts here is talking specifically about the RS tours.

Yes, and I enjoyed it so much the first time, I took the tour again two years later. The itineraries were slightly different and they were both winter tour offerings. I would not recommend this tour in the warmer months as It was comfortably warm in February and March. As relates to level of difficulty, it wasn't that demanding; I thought Village Italy and Greece were both more strenuous. When it is published for next year, take a look at the tour itinerary and you will see a rating as to level of difficulty and amount of walking for each day. Like any Rick Steves tour, to successfully participate in all group activities, you should be able to walk without difficulty, manage stairs and cobblestones and stand around (this is harder for me than the walking) for periods of time. Also keep in mind, you will be treated as an adult on any of these tours and can opt out of any group activity you don't feel up to. I'll qualify my opinion by saying I live in Colorado at 6300' altitude and walk at least 1-3 miles every day. If you want to hike, you will be able to ask your guide for recommendations. As I recall, no hiking was scheduled as part of the tour. Both tours were amazing, as is Sicily. Do go, I am sure you will enjoy it!
