Tour of Pompei?

Hello… My mom is asking me to book a tour of Pompeii for the six of us adults who will be in Italy in May. Is it necessary to do this in Pompeii? If so, any recommendations for companies?

Where will you be staying for your visit to Pompeii?

We were staying in Sorrento

I agree with Christine, the Mondo shared tours are great. Check out their website. The RS Guide also recommends them.
Have a great trip !

I booked this tour from Airbnb for 3/20/25 and was very pleased with it. The reviews were very good, but I was a little concerned because the price was lower than what you see on Viator or other sites (less than $30 a person for the option without the ticket included). However, our guide Angelo was great. He was very knowledgeable and interactive with us. The park was empty enough that 2 hours felt like plenty of time since we did not have to wait anywhere to see anything.

We had about 10-12 people in our group (I had 5 in my group). It looks like you can even book a small group with just your party for less than $250.

I toured Pompeii on my own without the benefit of a tour guide in 2022, but wish I had hired a guide. The site is so fascinating that a guide would help bring it alive. However, if you use Rick's detailed guidebook, it will certainly suffice. Sometimes I hire a guide, sometimes I don't if I have a good guidebook because I read it in advance: Pompeii was something I wish I had hired a guide for.

I would have gotten so lost in Pompeii without a guide- the area is massive. It's difficult to comprehend Pompeii's size until you actually have your feet on that ground.

Agree with the other posters that you need a guide for Pompeii. The cheapest way to do is with the Mondo tours mentioned above.
