Tour in Sicily cancelled. Now what?

Caio, I am in Palermo Sicily now and my day trip to Erice and Segesta tomorrow was just canceled. I already took a day trip to Cefalu. Any ideas on a day trip I could do on public transport? Or with a small group tour? Thank you!

Go on your own taking a bus to either Erice or Trapani. No tour needed for either. You can take the cable car that goes from one to the other. There may buses to Segesta, but you’d need to check.

What about Monreale? The Monreale Cathedral is lovely and so is a walk along the water there. We took an Uber, but I believe there is a bus that you could take. In my notes from a year ago, it was Line: 389 - MONREALE/INDEPENDENCE.

  1. Just hop on the various sites (getyourguide, airbnb experiences, google) and find a day trip to replace your cancelled one. There has to be a ton of options. I really thought Erice was kinda neat but YMMV

  2. Pivot.

As someone mentioned, Monreale is perfect on the local bus. No tour needed.
Capuccine Catacombs; walkable or a bus from where you are now
Agrigento Valley of Temples is kinda far for a day trip. You'll burn 5 hours in transit. Same with Etna, but moreso.

Thank you so much! It is supposed to be raining in the afternoon so I decided to visit Monreale in the morning and then booked a cooking class from 4-8 to stay dry. Thank you for all of your suggestions. This group is the best!

After you've seen the mosaics in the Monreale basilica, be sure to go into the adjoining cloisters and walk all the way around the courtyard looking at the tops of the pillars --- one of my favorite things in all of Italy is that cloister, and it was only on my 2nd visit to Monreale that I went in there.
