Tour in Rome for a teenager?

Hi all,

We (me, my husband, and a 13 year old son) are visiting Italy for the first time this December. We are considering a walking tour in Rome - Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. There are many suggested in Rick's book. I saw on this forum a lot of people liked Walk of Italy tour, but it seems more expensive than others. I would really appreciate if you can give your recommendations for walking tours that would be a good fit for a teenager. Thank you!

While it is a bit of a splurge, there's nothing like having a private guide who can truly engage you and your son and tailor the tour to your interests. We, and our many friends and visitors to Rome when we lived there, loved Sonia Tavoletta. Contact her at SoniaTav@Alice.it. Ask her about a 3-4 hour tour, which is more than enough IMO. Plan on about Euro 55 or 60 per hour, I think.

Hi,
I just wanted to add an update about Sonia. I e-mailed her based on this post and she let me know that she is actually using a different e-mail address now: soniatavoletta63@gmail.com. Should you be interested in using her, you will want to contact her via this g-mail one.

Thank you Laurel and mrp. I will consider using a private guide - didn't even think of it!

A company we used in 2013 is Context Travel which gave us an outstanding tour of the Vatican. The group size is only 6 so it's really easy to ask questions and take as long as you like at the places that especially interest you. I can't recommend them enough! https://www.contexttravel.com/cities/rome/ I see they also have tours with kids in mind.
