Other than Kelly has anyone used a travel guide in Rome, Italy recently? What was your experience and cost wise how did it compare to Kelly's cost?
We hired Mia Schettino this past May, for 70E an hour for a four hour tour of Trastevere. She was wonderful. Her English is impeccable and she's a delight. She has several basic tours available, or you can do a custom one, like we did. Contact her at miarome (at) libero.it I have no idea how much this Kelly person charges.
We were in Rome last October, 2012. Used Francesca Pagliaro [email protected]. Her rate then was 40 euro per hour (group). We were a group of 4. After a 25 day trip in Europe we determined that she was the highlight of our trip. She was very knowledgeable and personable, just a delight. In our planning and research, she was not our first choice, but when we go back to Rome, and we will, she will be our first choice.

Joanne, I'd highly recommend Francesca Caruso. She's an outstanding Guide with an impressive knowledge of the history and sights of Rome, and she also speaks excellent English. Happy travels!
We have used Frederica D'Orazio in 2009 and again this past May. She is a native of Rome with a degree in art history. She speaks good english, and is exremely knowledable. She also has a great sense of humor. She charges 50 euros an hour.
We did a half day electric Golf Cart Tour of Rome the end of September and it was fantastic. The carts are equipped to go anywhere around the city. They will take take you any place you want but also they have a planned tour if you would like to just let them show you around. They can zip in and out of any small street. We took the half day tour not knowing if we would like it, but wished we had taken the whole day tour. We landed up also taking the 3 hour evening tour our last night. They picked us up right at our hotel and dropped us back there, but would have dropped us anywhere we wanted at the end of the tour. The both our drivers were so knowledgeable about Rome. We drove right up to the steps of the churches my husband wanted to see. I was having trouble with my right knee, so it was fantastic for me to just walk right in. The company's name is Gioia. Our cart could hold 3 people. For larger groups they take 2 carts, but are planning to buy a larger cart. They offer regular tours by private cars, but the Golf cart tour is the way to really see things up close. Our first driver told us they started offering Golf cart tours about 3 years ago. It was one of the highlights of our 17 trip to Italy.
Wish they had tours like that in other cities.
Here's another vote for Francesca Caruso. In a word, excellent!
