If you want a tour of the city just google it. Viator and other companies offer many such tours. If you mean tours for specific site, most offer their own guides or audio guides. It depends on what you're looking for.

I don't have one handy to double check but you might try one of the Rick Steve's tour books-either Italy or Rome-for recommendations. You can always check for the books at your local library if you don't want to purchase one.

Four of us hired a guide in Rome for our first day. We had looked in RS Rome book and contacted one of the guides listed. She was unavailable that day and gave us the name of another guide - Ilaria Ceccarelli. She was perfect for us: Masters in Italian Art History, professional with about 15 years experience, willing to go our pace - older women with jet lag. Contact by email: ilariacecc@gmail.com
Enjoy!

www.toursbylocals.com will give you a wide array of guides and prices along with itineraries and reviews. We've booked guides via this site for several countries on different trips, and we've always been well pleased.

We regularly use and recommend for our visitors both Francesca Caruso (francescainroma@gmail.com) and Sonia Tavoletta (soniatav@alice.it). Francesca does all the Rick Steves tours and is in high demand, so sometimes hard to get. She once recommended Sonia to us and we've found her delightful. Each will customize your day(s) to suit you, adn there a flat rate per hour for all of you, versus packaged tours per person pricing.

Years ago I used AngelTours when in Rome with my daughter to do the Vatican (skip the line) tour. Very reasonably priced, and the guide was great (Of course the Vatican museum and hallway were terribly crowded, as was the Sistine Chapel).

Next year in Florence, for the first time we are doing a guided day hike outside the city using http://www.viator.com

They also offer lots of options for day tours. Seems they have good ratings (on their own website, so check out Travel Advisor too)
