Tour guides in Florence

I will be spending a week in Florence this October, traveling by myself and wanted to hire a guide for tours in Florence and perhaps daytrips....what are latest recommendations? Thanks fellow travelers.

Pam, Do you have copies of the Italy or Florence & Tuscany Guidebooks available? I believe there are listings for good local Guides there. Happy travels!

I agree you should start by looking at RS guides. And, you'll get better replies if you say exactly what you want a guide for, or what kind of daytrips you were looking for - art history, cooking, wine, pretty countryside, 3-hilltowns-in-1-day, etc. Also, you don't need a guide to see Florence, and the lots of places in the surrounding area. Siena, Lucca, Pisa, and San Gimignano are just some of the places that you can get to easily by yourself without a car and can easily enjoy without a guide. Of course, if you don't want to drive but want to get to more rural areas (with spotty bus and train service), or if you want to drink (and so can't drive), a guide is a very good idea.

Suggest you check out Context Florence... I've always had great experiences with them (in Florence and elsewhere)

I would definitely check out Slow days in Florence if you are looking to get into the countryside. Although many places like Siena, Lucca and San Gimignano are easy enough to reach by public transport if you want to escape the tourist crowds a small group day trip might be your easiest route.
