We are taking our first trip to Italy in June (myself, husband and kids ages 9 &11). Does anyone have any private tour guides they would recommend in Rome, Florence or Venice? I want to be sure to find guides who will keep the kids interested but who really know the city. (good rates would be a bonus) Many thanks!
Allison
We had an excellent experience with Francesca Caruso ([email protected]) for the Colosseum, Forum and Palatine Hill. Not cheap, but unbelievably good. We also had a great semi-private tour of the Vatican Museums and St. Peter's with Walks of Italy. Only 12 people were allowed in the tour, so we had good access to the guide. We took the "Pristine Sistine" tour.
Allison, I would also highly recommend Francesca Caruso. She's an incredible and very knowledgeable Guide, and also really nice. It's no surprise that she's immensely popular at the Rick Steves Tour Reunions. Regarding Florence and Venice, there should be local Guides listed in the respective Guidebooks. Happy travels!
you might check out the walking tours on the website of Context Travel. I've used them in each of the cities you list and always had very good experiences; the guides are very well educated and are also engaging. Groups are limited to 6 for almost all tours, so you get some of the benefits of a private guide. I know they do some family-specific orientations to cities and also family-specific tours.
