My husband and I love Rome. Have been back 3 times and have taken private tours to the usual sights. We are looking for someone that you found personable and knowledgeable about history, local politics, and insights into the country. We want to fall in love all over again with the culture from someone who enjoys sharing their perspective. We are 76 years old and can't walk as fast or as long as we used to. But we are motivated to try! We are just staying in Rome for this 10 day trip so have plenty of time to see our favorite places on our own.
When are you going and do you know where you’re staying?
I greatly enjoyed a private tour of Galleria Borghese with the fabulous Marta Marsili, [email protected], a colleague of (and recommended by) Francesca Caruso, [email protected] and www.francescacaruso.com. Francesca also provided the following names: Ilaria Ceccarelli, [email protected]; Sonia Tavoletta, [email protected] and Alessandra Mazzoccoli, [email protected]. All these women are licensed guides and are highly regarded for their talented tour guiding expertise. Enjoy your time in Rome!
We are going first 10 days of October and staying at Palazzo Olivia in an apartment we've stayed in before.
Just curious bacause I know of an apartment, but sounds like you’re covered. Wish I knew of a tour guide. But have a wonderful time!!
We loved our tour of the Vatican museum and St. Peter’s Basilica with Sonia Tavoletta. Not only was she knowledgeable and entertaining, but our pre-tour information about where to meet, etc... came with pictures to make it easier to find and relieved an worries.
Cindy, We had been to Rome a couple of times and really enjoyed it. And yet, as a retired history teacher, I was always wanting more information than either I could find or that some group tour (and they were all good) of a particular location was sharing. So, for our next trip, my goal was to find not just a guide but a guide whose training had an academic component. Finally I found Danielle Hunt https://www.rome-tours.com/guide.php . You can read her training here. What that page doesn't include is that she is a warm, funny, well-organized woman who really enjoys people and LOVES to share her delight in and knowledge of the city of Rome with others. We loved the time we spent with her in the Forum/Palatine Hill and I will say that finally, at the end of her tour, I felt like I actually understood what I was seeing for the 3rd time, how it fit together and how it all fit in to the early history of Rome. Also this, we laughed a lot though the whole tour.
Thanks Theresa, Patty and Kate. I am writing emails to some of these guides right now! Any further recommendations will be greatly appreciated. This is not a done deal yet.
