Should I book a tour group to see these two sites. Currently, I'm in Florence and I will be in Rome tomorrow. What do people think? And if yes, who should I go with. I plan on purchasing a Roma pass when I get in.
Thanks
Kathy
We used the Rick Steve's Audio Tours on our iPods for these sites last month. They were both great, although the Colosseum one was much easier to follow. In the Forum, there were a few times where we weren't sure if we were in the right spot, or, if we were "sure", it turned out we were wrong. But, they were both great, and I would highly recommend them.
If you can get on a tour with Francesca Caruso, do so. She's an independent local guide who does the Rick Steves' group tours. She's phenomenal. Check out these links:

I second contacting Francesca. She is fabulous.
Angel Tours & Through Eternity offer great tours as well.
Leslie, where did you purchase the audio guides for you ipod? I've never seen that before but it sounds like a great idea.

If you use the RS audio guides I would suggest also printing out the PDF Map files that come with them. The maps follow the audio guide and they will be very helpful, especially in the Forum.
Ciao,

We just came back from Rome. We were at the Colosseum on a Thursday at approximately 10:30am - no lines if you had the Roma pass. There will be a line to buy tickets, but if you have the pass you bypass the line. We did the Rick Steves ipod tour along with his book so it was good. No line at the Forum either but the entrance is no longer near the Titus Arch so just remember this for the Forum tour.
I liked Angel Tours. We missed the one we booked on Friday, so we saw the St. Peter's and the treasures museum at the Vatican that day, and then Sean let us rebook for Monday, which took us through the most of the rest that we didn't see on Friday. Ps. Spent 6 and half hours total for both days, and still missed the Egyptian and Picoteca museum.
