I will be in Rome for Easter this year and was considering doing a day trip to Pompeii. Has anyone done this and do you have a Tour company to recommend? I also was thinking that seeing a local winery would be fun too? Any suggestions?
This is discussed frequently so if search the site some you will find many answers. To sum -- a day trip to Pompeii is doable by train but a very long day. Obviously an overnight in the area would make it easier.
Thanks Frank, You seem to always answer my questions the last 5 years or so. I still remember you sending me your wife's travel packing suggestions quite a few years ago. I prefer to use a tour company so it is easier on us. We have traveled a lot on our own but I am trying to make it stress free this trip. We just returned from Ireland with our adult kids for the holidays and doing the planning and driving we need a break. Thanks again and I will use the search feature on this site.

We used Walks of Italy for a Vatican Tour last year and were so impressed that we are going to use them for Pompeii when we return in December. Check them out at http://www.walksofitaly.com/. While we are staying in Sorrento, I see no reason why you couldn't take the train to Naples and hook up with them there. They also offer private drivers if you want to take all the stress out of transportation.
