Due to a very short visit, I want to see the Forum but will not have time for the Colosseum or Palatine Hill. Can I purchase a ticket for Forum area ONLY, not a combination with other sights?

The three sites are on a combo ticket, the one you buy at any of the three places works for the others. The combo ticket is only €12 I think.

The Forum is'nt all that big. Depending on how much you want to soak it up it wouldn't take more than a couple of hours.

If you want to be cheap/free, you could stand on the street outside of the Forum and look in through the fences, or at least you could when I was there in 2008...but it's not quite the same thing.
