Tour, Doge's Palace, Venice, Italy

we are considering a tour of the Doge's Palace, and would like to know. How long the tour will last, since we are pressed for time, because our cruise starts that day. Thank you.

Do you mean an organized tour, if so can the tour provider tell you? If you mean touring it on your own, last time I was there we spent about three hours, but I like to see every nook and cranny and like to linger. You could probably do it in less, and a guided tour would almost certainly be less time.

Last summer I also spent 2.5-3 hours at Doge's Palace; that was a combination of the Secret Itineraries tour and touring the rest of the palace on my own.

A general admission ticket means that you walk through the place as quickly or as slowly as you want.

If you book the Secret Itineraries Tour then general admission is also included in that price. The official guide takes you through the "secret" passages and afterwards drops you at the beginning of the general admission area where you can either continue or simply walk down the golden staircase and exit.

We did the Secret Itineraries Tour one year, and the basic entry another year, and frankly I would recommend not bothering with the Secret Itineraries Tour. The basic self-guided tour goes to better spaces, at your own pace, and with Rick's tour from the guidebook or app is just as informative.

My top tip is to go to the Doge's Palace in the evening. Much less crowded and more impressive.

If you are touring the palace on your own, I would allow two or three hours, depending on how long you like to linger. Something to be aware of is that visitors move through the palace in a single direction (no going backwards), so once you are in, you are committed to seeing the entire palace, including the dungeons. This might be too much for a causal visitor (or someone with a small bladder).
It’s possible that some guided tours can give you an abbreviated highlights visit.
To save time, buy your tickets at the Correr museum on the opposite side of the square.
