Too tight connection in Torino-Porta Susa on journey fromParis to Florence

Depart Gare de Lyon on a TGV#9245 at 10:41am
Arrive at Torino- Porta Susa at 16:20.
15 minute transfer time.
Depart 16:35pm for Florence (Santa Maria Novella) on Italo #9951.

While nothing is set in stone I thought i would ask - Is it a relatively easy connection given anyone's past experiences with a tight transfer in Turin? One reality is that I am traveling with two older women who are a little less nimble. If we miss the train is it a problem to get the next train to Florence, and to get that situation should I be booking a complete one way on a french website or the Italian websites? So far I have been using loco2 to get my planning sorted.

Truthfully the Vueling - Orly to Florence flight does sound like a good option as well. I am considering it strongly. But the idea of sharing some time on the trains is appealing. I am hoping that the 15 minutes of stress during the changeover could be reduced somehow with planning well.

The only way to get a protected connection is buying a through ticket either on SNCF.fr or on Trenitalia.it. I'd go with the former. There are no agreements between SNCF and Italo, a detail that agencies like loco2 forget to warn customers about.

When I look at the SNCF website, they do not guarantee the 15 minute connection to Italo. They do guarantee the connection to the Trenitalia train at 18:22, but that means a 2 hour change time in Turin.

Still, 8 1/2 hours on a train plus 2 hours wait time begins to make an airplane ticket more appealing.

As much as I'd like to push for more environmentally-friendly train travel, the convenience of an Orly-Florence flight is hard to beat... With both airports being so close to their respective centers (especially with the new tram line 2 in Florence! Takes you straight to S.M. Novella station) and so easy to navigate, it's hard to justify a full day's worth of train riding. Also, it would be too bad to pass thru Turin without visiting, if only for a few hours...

Thanks for the info. Great help in sorting through the logistics. Jut a bit too tight to consider.

My husband is from Turin, so we take the Paris-Turin train regularly. I wouldn't sign myself up for a 15-minute transfer time at Porta Susa. The train isn't one of those Swiss wonders that stays on time to the minute. When we're late, it doesn’t really matter (except for the night my husband was coming back and the train was six hours late, that was a pain), because we're arriving at our destination. But to know I only had 15 minutes before getting on another train to Florence? It wouldn't be my choice. (When I did Paris-Florence a couple of years ago by train, I spent a couple of nights at my in-laws' before taking the train onward to Florence from Turin).

Does it seem better than 'sharing time at a sidewalk cafe in Florence.

You do not say when this trip is, but airfare at ~$130 is, for me, the easy choice to make.

@Joe, excellent point!! Better to spend the time on a terrazza.

Honestly that is way too long of a day on the rails to be considered much fun. We’re always quite ready to be done once we’re at Turin, and that is a little less than 6 hours. Thinking of another — three?? four?? — hours before arriving in Florence makes me tired already.
