How much is the toll for the foot bridge from Bagnoregio to Civita? What is the name of the restaurant at the base of the foot bridge in Bagnoregio?
Lucinda,
AFAIK, there is NO toll for the foot bridge (unless one has been added recently). The start of the bridge is not actually "in" Bagnoregio but rather a short distance out of town. Although the bridge is primarily for foot traffic, be vigilant for motorcycles!
I don't know the name of the restaurant at the base of the footbridge. As I recall, there may be more than one.
Actually, as of mid-2013 an entry fee of 3 euros per person was instituted for a repair fund for Civita di Bagnoregio. It is collected at a booth at the Bagnoregio end of the foot bridge. This is actually an entry fee for the town, not a toll for crossing the bridge, but I suppose those are just two words for the same thing. If you think of the unique town itself as like a museum, it's a pretty modest entry fee.
I visited Civita this past September. When we where there the fee was 1.50 euro each. I paid 3 euro for both of us.
I forget the name of the restaurant. I didn't eat there, I ate in Civita at Antico Frantoio Bruchetteria from reading Rick's book.
I expect that Robert is correct about the exact amount of the entry fee. I was there in mid-October and remember paying a modest fee. When this question came up here, I did some web research that mentioned the initiation of a new fee of 3 euros around the middle of 2013. Maybe they did, or still are, phasing it in, or maybe it is higher on the weekends, I was there on a Sunday. By the way, since the busses to Civita do not run on Sundays, I expected the town to be quiet, but instead it was very busy with visitors, mostly Italians it seemed, with so many cars it was impossible to park in the lot near the bridge.
