Does anyone know which roads are told roads in this area? Any maps of links that would show this? Is it based on how many km you are on the toll road? Thanks.

The Autostrade (motorways) are toll roads. They are numbered starting with the letter A
In Abruzzo the toll roads are:
A24: From Rome to Pescara on the Adriatic coast
A25: about half way the above A24 splits into two freeways (A24 and A25). The A24, more to the south proceeds to Pescara. The A25 proceeds more to the north toward L’Aquila (the region’s capital) and eventually to Teramo/Giulianova also on the Adriatic coast, but north of Pescara.
A14: Bologna-Taranto which runs almond the Adriatic coast all the way down to Puglia, passing through Abruzzo as well.
The way the toll freeways function is easy. At the entrance ramp, at the toll booth, you pick up a ticket (similar to the ticket you pick up at from a dispensing machine when you enter into a parking garage). When you exit the freeway, at the exit toll booth, you insert the ticket in the machine, the display will show how much you owe (which is based on the distance travelled) and then you insert the money or the credit/debit card to pay. Some booths have a human as a tool collector. In that case you hand the ticket to the toll collector and pay the amount shown in the display to the human. Be aware that the booths manned by a human accept only cash (no cards).
The booths accepting cards or cash have a white sign showing money and cards
The booths accepting only cards have a blue sign showing cards
The booths with a human are also white but the logo shows only money and a black hand holding the money, they will not show the cards logo.
The booth with a yellow sign showing a big T (for TELEPASS) are only for people with an electronic toll transponder. DO NOT ENTER THOSE YELLOW SIGN BOOTHS as you will not have a Telepass transponder.
