I just received a ticket from the autostrada saying I didn't pay a toll from 10/15/15. I believe this might be accurate since my "EasyPass" wasn't working correctly that I got from the car rental agency.
At any rate, I'd like to be sure that this isn't a scam. It's coming from NiviCredit. I'm returning to Italy in August, so I need to clear this up ASAP. Any advice?
Thanks
Susan
If you think it is accurate how could it be a scam? Pay it and be done.
I'm not sure the website I'd go to is a scam. Worried that I'm putting in my credit card info and it's a scam.
You could always call the car rental company you used and inquire. They could tell you whether they gave your information to NiviCredit, and how else could they have obtained it legitimately. The car was registered to the rental car company, not you. It would also be an opportunity to verify whether your car rental company has any obligation to reimburse you for tickets received due to the "EasyPass" they sold you not working.
Look up 'nivi credit' on Google and you'll find many mentions, including some on this forum going back 10 years. There's even a protest website https://antinivi.wordpress.com/2013/01/29/italian-traffic-fines/ Whatever you decide, it will have no effect on your future travels. If you are American, it the claim cannot be enforced.
Thanks All. I just paid it. Not sure why Americans would pay (if it's true that the tickets can't be enforced) But since I'm returning to Italy soon, I don't want any problems.
It's not that they can send the Carabinieri to the US. However if the rental company gave you a telepass that didn't work, they should pay.
