to wear my wedding rings or not?

I'm off on another solo adventure today to Tuscany(!!)
I'm happily married with 2 kids...just have a chronic adventure bug. Anyway, is it safe to wear my wedding bands? I wear 3 gold bands on 1 finger, one of which has a "stone" in it. Not flashy. I wore my bands to Amsterdam in the fall and had no problem. Shall I wear them, not wear them, use an imposter? I'd rather show the world that I am married not single as to not draw attention to myself.

...and a lot of married people don't wear rings anyway ....and you'd probably notice it if somebody soaped your hands to get them off ...and they're probably not as valuable as a fist-full of credit cards ....and who can tell a cheapie from a good one at ten feet? ...and what did you do on your other solo adventures?

The risk of a ring being stolen is exceedingly small. However, if you tend to take a ring off at night or when washing your hands it might be possible to forget/loose it. But if you wear your rings all the time anyways I see no reason to leave them at home.

There is no need not to wear them unless you might lose them. Women wear their rings all the time in Italy without problems. I have never not worn mine on a trip and have never had any type of problem arise from it. I'm much more concerned about my camera and credit cards than I am about my wedding rings. Donna

If you want to wear it, wear it. If you don't, then don't. Last year I wore my newly received engagement ring when I was in Italy. When walking through tight crowds in Rome where there was a bigger possibility of something happening, I turned it under my hand so that the plain white gold band was showing and all my diamonds were hidden. I didn't want to bring any extra attention to it, because it is quite sparkly, but I also didn't want to leave it at home because I had just become engaged and was excited about wearing it. Honestly, if you are in Tuscany, Jane Ann, I wouldn't worry about it. Depends on what part of Tuscany of course, but even in Florence I never felt like there would be any type of problem, and then from there in smaller Tuscan cities like Siena, Arezzo, Cortona, I wore it without any worry. Also note that most Italians don't wear big diamonds. The majority I've seen (even women) just wear a plain gold band. So if you wanted to leave two of your bands (including the one with the stone) at home and just wear one plain gold band, it will have the same effect if you want to flash your hand and show you're married, and it won't seem unusual.

Just FYI many European cultures wear their wedding bands on their right hand. If you really want to look married to everyone, you'll have to wear rings on both hands.

Thanks everyone...
Just arrived in Firenza....no bands. I guess it felt safer to leave them at home. Off to explore! Ciao!
