to pre-book accomodation or not to?

Arriving in Venice Mar. 31 for 2 nights - should I book accomodation now or can I just wing it when I get there? There's 2 of us and we are on a budget.

Also, does Venice offer B&Bs/casa particulares? (I forget what the name is in Italian) Thank you for any tips :)

Venice is always crowded so book in advance. The only you should not reserve is when you don't know your schedule. You know you need two nights beginning on March 31 so why not book? There is no reason to spend precious sightseeing time wandering around trying to find a place that meets your needs and your budget. The week before/after Easter is a popular time to travel.

"Winging it" could eat up hours of time that you would probably prefer to spend actually seeing the city. And I second the recommendation of Pensione Guerrato. A good way to save a lot of money is to get a room with a shared bath. Guerrato has a few of those.

(The Italian term you're looking for is probably "pensione" although they also use "B&B".)
