Tix for Florence Museums

If I reserve tickets for Uffizi and Accademia by phone and not pay until we pick up the tickets on site, will we have to wait in a line to pay? Is it better to reserve tickets online and pay upfront using a credit card to avoid a line to pay for tickets reserved by phone? Have tried to book using city's official site but have had no luck, so if I do book online and pay upfront, the middleman sites are pricey . . . yikes!

We are facing the same problem, and after looking at the total cost for the tickets including the fees, we've decided to join Amici degli Uffizi. It will cost us 100 Euros for a "family" and in addition to letting us skip the lines, we can bob into these places without paying any additional fees. We won't likely see many of them, since we're only there two days, but we could possibly visit any number of them more than once if we wanted to. It worked out to be 1 pretty cost effective solution. And we just show up at the Uffizi Entrance #2 on our first day and get the pass then we take off for the sights. We also purchased the Friends of Uffizi passes before our trip 3 years ago. Worked beautifully, just as described. Never waited in line, actually went into the Uffizi 3 times, and great for the other sites, including the Academia. I highly recommend this pass. One of the best purchases for our trip.

We were just in Florence the beginning of June. An option we found worked great for the two of us was the 72 hour Firenze Pass. It covers most all the museums and can be used for the buses. We paid E50 each and saw the Academia (skipped the line), Pitti Palace (Boboli Gardens), took bus to and from Fiesole (and used it for the archaeology park there) and the Medici Chapels (we did have to pay to walk up to the Lantern of the Duomo). We got the passes right across the street from the train station at the tourist info stop. Just keep in mind which 72hours you would be there and what will (or won't) be open then. Have a great trip!
