Tivoli/Hadrian's Villa

I'll going to Rome on Friday (arriving Sat 8am) and want to see Tivoli/Hadrian's Villa on Saturday before my RS tour starts on Sunday. Any idea about how long the travel time is? Is it really as complicated as everyone says it is? How much time do you need?

Well, you're probably going to be exhausted that first day, but walking around Hadrian's Villa might be what you need to get over the jetlag. We did a similar thing last May. We arrived in Rome Thursday afternoon and took a guided tour of Hadrian's villa the next day. We had hired a guide/driver for the excursion.

It took us about an hour to get to the Villa from the Trastevere neighborhood of Rome because traffic was so heavy. About the same for the return drive. (We didn't want to deal with the train/bus transfer so soon after arriving.)

I don't know if traffic will be much lighter on a Saturday. We were at the villa for about three hours and felt rushed. We had chosen in advance not to do the gardens at Villa d'Este. I don't know if that's on your itinerary or not.

Erica,

Which RS tour will you be taking? If you're taking the South Italy tour, the stop at Tivoli / Hadrian's Villa is included. You'll have an hour or two for touring the site on the day you leave Rome.

Cheers!

I'm taking the Best of Rome tour, which unfortunately does not include a trip to Tivoli.
