My husband and I are travelling to Rome and are thinking of a day trip to Tivoli. I see some "do it yourself" options and also have found some tours that bring you there - has anyone visited Tivoli and, if so, how did you get there and what would you recommend? We are not seasoned international travellers but we're also not afraid to try something new ;)
Yes, reading this in Rick's guide is what prompted me to look into a tour! Have you visited Tivoli? Is it a)worth it and b)how did you get there? Thanks!

I have been to Tivoli several times and i drove there each time. Now, try enjoyrome.com because they offer day tours to Tivoli and Hadrian's Villa. They offer no frills to and from bus service. In 2003 we used them to visit Pompeii and we were very satisfied. I found enjoyrome in Frommer's Guide.
As for Tivoli, it is interesting with its many fountains. It is built into a hillside with many steps and uphill walks. Last year this was the last place we visited before my girlfriend returned to the USA. Rick also details directions in his guidebook using public transportation to reach this suburban spot.
Buon viaggio,
