Tivoli Day Trip

We are going to be in Rome the first week in June. We have most things arranged but was looking for a day trip to Tivoli to see Villa d'Este & Hadrian's Villa. We found one tour from 'Enjoy Rome' that is 7 hours. On TripAdvisor there is mixed reviews on this tour group. Does anyone have any information about this group (I know it is recommended in Rick's book). Or is there another option. We really wanted to do a tour as we are bringing our 17 yr old grandson and the information that a tour guide would provide he would enjoy.

I can't address this particular tour -- but have taken two different day tours -- once with an elderly parent and once with just my husband. Both were awful. On one we were hustled into a cameo shop while the time at Villa Adriana was so limited we didn't even get to see the large pool (the coolest sight there). I would figure out how to get there with buses and trains and take your own time. You don't need a guide and you really will want to take your time at Villa Adriana. On our third visit, we spent a night at the hotel right at the gates and spent our jet lag arrival day from Rome wandering around the Villa Adriana site. It was fabulous. I would never take another bus tour after our experiences with them.

I was there independently for 2 days a few yrs ago. It was wonderful. We met some tourists that took the city bus from Rome. However the schedule was infrequent at least on that day.
Best ck with your hotel concierge for advice on guided tours.
It is well worth the effort to,experience Tivoli.

Hopefully the day u choose will be dry as both sights are exposed tomthe elements.

I spent two nights in Tivoli last year, I took the train from Roma. Lovely little town, several sights, great food options.

I agree that the travel distance, even in a dedicated tour bus is so large that you are better off with public transportation. The two main sights (not that close to each other) are so large, romantic, and evocative that you don't want to be rushed. You should plan to head home as late as possible.

There is plenty on the internet, like Ron in Rome and the Search box (desktop site only) here to learn about the train and the bus.

My tablet has not let me sign in. So sorry I have not been back. Thank you for all your advice. This is the first time we will be in Rome and we are going to have a real active day before this one therefore we may just take a light day and enjoy Rome. We really appreciate all the advice we get from ya'll while we travel. (yes we are from the south)
