Hello! I am going to Italy this summer and we will be in Rome August 6-10. I want to go to Tivoli on one of the days, and I am wondering if you can get there by taking the FR2 urban line train from the tiburtina station, and if you can go this route using the rome transportation pass, specifically, Carta Integrata Settimanale (S.I.T.) which is the week long ticket. Also, do you know how to get to Villa D'este once you are in Tivoli?
Thanks!
I am not sure if this will answer your first question, but the Viila D'este directions are also on this sight: http://www.ricksteves.com/plan/destinations/italy/tivoli.htm
I looked up Tivoli because I just saw a special on Italy and decided that must be one of the best kept secrets! Looks beautiful and not mentioned in Ricks 2007 Italy. (at least not in the index)
Sasha,
You can reach Tivoli from the FR2 line but your ATAC Carta Integrata Settimanale is only good on that line as far as Lunghezza. Here is a link that show the train/metro system. The names in RED signify the last stop INCLUDED for ATAC passes (bus, metro, trains, trams, etc.) Anything past that requires you to purchase a ticket.

So to get to Tivoli you will have to pay a little extra. According to Trenitalia it's about 2.30 Euro one way for a 2nd class ticket and takes about an hour from Roma Tiburtina Station.
Walking from the train station to Villa D'este takes about 15 minutes. Another option - You could always ride the Cotral bus from Rome and I believe it drops you almost at the entrance of Villa D'este.
The website for Viila D'Este is: http://www.villadestetivoli.info/infoe.htm
Villa D'este is worth the trip! Have fun!
