Tivoli

I have 2+ days in Rome. One day is completely free. I have talked to numerous people who commented how nice Tivoli is.

I had planned to spend the 2+ days I had there in the Vatican and ancient Rome, Pantheon, etc.

I am now researhing Tivoli.

Comments welomed on Tivoli.

I was in Tivoli 10 yrs ago & found it well worth the trip ~ a nice change from the big city. I don't know the status of the fountains at Villa d'Este these days; but if they're flowing, they're incredible. Hadrian's Villa is your usual collection of 'scant remains' for the most part; but for history buffs, it's a fascinating look at how the rich & famous lived in Hadrian's day. I found this link: www.terragalleria.com/europe/italy/tivoli/tivoli.all.html with some great pictures. There are day tours out of Rome...& probably bus links to do it on your own.

You can get to Tivoli by public transportation (metro/bus), but it's a bit confusing. Tour would be more efficient with so little free time.
