Tired of researching

Hello,
We will be staying by San Gimignano for a few days and I have my day trip mapped out for Val d'Orcia. Next is Chianti area for a day. Would like to go to Radda to see ceramic shop. Would like to visit one or two more towns besides Greve. Any suggestions and why? Lunch stop suggestions greatly appreciated also. Also, we are going quite a few places around Italy. Does anyone know of any other beautiful ceramics shops.......especially reasonably priced. Thank you very much

Towns known for nice ceramics include Deruta, Gubbio, and Grottaglie , as well as Vietri sul Mar. But there is an awful lot of cheap tourist crap everywhere.

Osteria Le Panzanelle, just outside of Panzano on the way to Radda in Chianti. Fabulous country restaurant. Make a reservation if at all possible. You can email them at osteria@lepanzanelle.it to do so. Very nice people, too.

While you are passing through, a stop in Panzano at Dario the Butcher's is interesting.

The city of Faenza, which is SE of Bologna and not too far from Ravenna, has a major international ceramics museum. There is apparently a lot of ceramic production in the city. If you scroll down near the bottom of this web page, you'll find a link to a .pdf of "Pianta della città di Faenza e delle botteghe ceramiche", the second page of which is a map of the city with locations of ceramic workshops, etc., marked. The information is as of 2014, so take it with a grain of salt. I'm not sure how many of those locations are actually shops open to the public, as opposed to points of production. I was in Faenza on a Saturday last July, and in wandering the historic center for a good while, I saw very few shops open, though there was an open-air market in the big square. A weekday might be better.

The Faenza tourist office (some English spoken last year) might be able to provide some info on ceramic shopping in the area. It's worth a stop, anyway, to see whether--as last year--they have contemporary ceramics on display.

For future reference, there is an important international biennial (2015/2017/2019...) ceramic competition organized by the Faenza museum.

I first learned about Faenza when I was in Italy decades ago. Just stumbled on an announcement about the competition. I suggest asking every tourist office you come across whether there's something ceramic-related nearby.

For lunch (or dinner or picnic supplies) go to Antica Macelleria Falorni. It is right in the main plazzo of Greve in Chianti.
Enjoy!

If you like ceramics, the most famous ceramics town near where you are staying is Montelupo Fiorentino, next to Empoli. Along the way you can also stop in pretty Certaldo, the birth town of Boccaccio (the author of "The Decameron").

If you get to Certaldo, also be sure to go to Certaldo Alto... It is charming. I photographed a wedding there a few years ago and it was such a wonderful place.

Yes, Certaldo would be a great place to stop for lunch. You could park at the bottom and walk up to stretch your legs.
There is a lovely restaurant in Certaldo Alto called Messer Boccaccio with great views and delicious food. But then it would be difficult to find a bad meal in Tuscany.
